DVD Video
Replicated DVDs come in 3 formats,
differentiated by the amount of data they can store. The
3 types of replicated DVDs are DVD-5, DVD-9, and DVD-10.
DVD-5 is single-layer, single-sided and can hold about
4.7GB of information (just under 2 hours of compressed
video). DVD-9 are double-layer, single sided, and hold
about 8.5 GB of data. DVD-10 are double-layer, double-sided,
and have data on both sides of the disc, and require clients
to change sides manually. DVD-10 is like having a DVD-5
on each side of the disc.
While we can accept DVD-R as masters,
there is about a 40% failure rate in glass mastering.
At present, DVD-R is a relatively unstable form of media,
and therefore can generate errors during burning. Because
of this instability, we recommend writing your master
to Digital Linear Tape (DLT). These tapes are the equivalent
of an audio DAT tape, and allow a steady transfer of information
without any errors. If you have any questions, or would
like help creating your DVD master, feel free to give
us a call. We are here to make your project as easy as
possible.
We also provide full-service DVD Authoring and Encoding exclusively through STAMEN MEDIA
